RAA presents oil painter Tim Dowell at Soiree March 20

Rossmoor Art Association (RAA) presents the work of oil painter Tim Dowell at a Soiree on Wednesday, March 20th, at 7 p.m. in the Fireside Room at Gateway. RAA Soirees feature music, wine and refreshments, as well as the art of a Rossmoor resident. This event’s musicians will be Rosemarie Krovoza on viola and Meriel Ennick on flute. Anna George, convener of the soiree, will sit in conversation with the artist. Tim will present his majestic landscape paintings done over many years. He will reveal his techniques and inspiration to those who come.

Born in Chicago, Tim colored and drew as a small child and took an art class in high school, but it wasn’t until college that he really became interested in art. He took classes in art history and art pedagogy, along with his other teacher education courses. After graduation he took night classes for life drawing and painting. He married, taught a couple of years then moved to Montana in 1972 in order to live more rurally and enjoy the great outdoors. During this time his personal art took a back seat to raising two children and teaching science and art in middle school. He ran and won a seat in the Montana legislature where he contributed to the state for five two-year terms.

It wasn’t until 2003 with grown children that Tim decided to paint every day. He had been painting in acrylic, but changed to oil, and learned through daily practice better use of colors, how to achieve good aerial perspective, and how to use a palette knife for texture. He painted some portraits but really wanted to be outside.

He paints plein air and from photographs taken by his daughter, who is an enthusiastic outdoors person and photographer. He has painted the California and Arizona deserts, Pinnacle Park, the Redwood Forest, the Oregon coast, Mt. Shasta, Northwest Montana, the Canadian Rockies, and Glacier Park. Come and see the majestic mountains, rivers and forests in Tim’s body of work and hear him talk about life in Montana at the Fireside Room March 20. It will be a special evening. You will be delighted by a retrospective of his passion—his art.
