RAA offers new “Drawing for FUN” class with Steve Osborn

Steve Osborn and the Rossmoor Art Association are offering a new drawing class, Thursday mornings from 9:30am until noon in Studio One. The first series starts March 22 and runs through April 19. The cost is $60 for five classes.

The class is open to beginners as well as veteran artists and is limited to 22 students.

The premise of this new class is to explore how we see objects in our world and then to draw them—and to have FUN while getting good at it. Students will work with pencil, pen and ink, conte crayon, and possibly watercolor, charcoal and pastel.

Osborn will give basic instruction in drawing, as well as introduce fun, unique techniques to bringing out the best of your art and drawing abilities. He will demonstrate contour drawing, sketching, light and shadow, and how to make your drawing sing.

Osborn is an illustrator, graphic designer, painter and award-winning artist. For many years, he taught illustration and graphic design at San Jose State and was a successful freelance illustrator.

He also owned his own design studio in Silicon Valley. His work has been shown in solo and group shows at fairs, exhibitions and galleries in northern California and in Santa Fe. You can see his cartoons on the Opinion Page of the Rossmoor News most weeks.

Osborn not only brings all his talent to the class, but great stories and a priceless sense of humor. So get in on the beginning class, and don’t miss this chance to draw better and join the FUN.

To register, send a check for $60, payable to RAA, to Rossmoor Art Association, 1966 Tice Valley Blvd., Box 278, Walnut Creek, CA 94595. Note “Osborn Drawing Class” in memo line on the check.

You must be a member of RAA to take the class. Residents who are not yet RAA members add annual dues of $10 and include a new member form. Forms and a calendar of RAA activities are available at www.rossmoorart.com or in Art Studio One.

Non- residents may take the class if there is space after Rossmoor residents have registered. They must be sponsored by a Rossmoor resident who is also taking the class. The cost for non-residents is $80.
