18 Jan RAA holds next Unique Critique on Thursday, February 2
The Rossmoor Art Association’s monthly event, Unique Critique, is an opportunity for RAA members to get feedback on their work from fellow students and local artist and instructor, Marcy Wheeler. The next Unique Critique will be Thursday, February 1 at 6:30 in Art Studio 2.
Unique Critique is designed to help participants learn how to hear and give constructive criticism without losing their personal artistic vision. Hearing what others see in your work and getting feedback on what may not be quite working and how you might fix it can get you beyond blocks and show you new ways to approach your work.
Wheeler also often offers a group critique on a work of hers or a work that someone unknown has done that is not quite working. Talking about a work that is not yours is a great ice-breaker.
Wheeler has been leading group critiques in her private painting classes for more than ten years, and has developed techniques to help artists push their work to the next level. “I see Unique Critique as a fun time for artists to get and give help moving ‘stuck’ paintings and to open new doors for paintings that seem to have ‘hit a wall’. As the group gets acquainted, trust and understanding develop. And the group can look at pieces over time to see how they progress,” says Wheeler.
AA members are invited to bring in one or two pieces of two-dimensional artwork for a group critique. Artists may also just come to listen and learn. The critique is led by local artist and RAA instructor, Marcy Wheeler.
The cost is $1.00 to listen, $3.00 for one piece for critique, and $5.00 for two pieces. Payment can be made by exact cash or by check made out to Marcy Wheeler.
You must be a member of RAA to attend the critique. To join, bring a check for $10 for annual dues, payable to RAA, and a completed new member form. Forms and a calendar of activities are available at www.rossmoorart.com or in Art Studio 1.
