Have you wanted to know the secret to capturing the essence of a subject in a portrait? Or just to be able to draw a portrait of a grandchild, friend or relative that you would be proud to show?
Here is your opportunity to learn. Seema Mahboob, an accomplished Bay Area artist and instructor, offers her expertise on drawing or painting portraits from a live model in a new Friday morning class.
Classes start April 6 and continue through May 11 from 9:00am to noon in RAA Studio Two. The cost for the 6-week series of three-hour classes is $200.
The first class demo will be in charcoal. Students may then work in any medium; pencil, conté, charcoal, pastels, acrylic or watercolor. Oil or solvent-based paints are NOT allowed in Studio Two . Class size is limited to 16 artists so register early.
Mahboob will introduce students to the skills and tools essential for accurate rendering from the model. Learn the important tools to see correctly and to interpret what you see.
Understand the importance of form shadows and cast shadows and what role shadows play in achieving a realistic portrait. Explore negative shapes, angles and comparative measurements and learn ways to see and sense the essence of the person through portraiture.
