Elizabeth Addison demonstrates printing techniques and new  printing press on Sept. 6

The Rossmoor Art Association (RAA) is pleased to offer a presentation by Bay Area printmaker and Rossmoor instructor, Elizabeth Addison, on Wednesday, September 6 from 1:00 to 3:00pm in Art Studio One at Gateway. This is the first of RAA’s 2017–18 monthly meetings on the first Wednesday afternoon of the month.

Addison will discuss and demonstrate two distinct printmaking methods: monotype and etching. Monotype is a painterly and improvisational printing method for making a single impression. Etching uses a photopolymer metal plate to create multiple editions of an image. Addison will also talk about how the two processes inform each other and about the tools and materials used in both processes.

Demonstrations will be on RAA’s new press, so attendees will also learn about using the press. Addison uses water-miscible inks that are non-toxic and easy to clean, and she will give tips on safe studio practices. She will also show some of the work artists in her RAA printmaking class have done using the new press.

In addition, Addison will talk about her recent work and exhibitions, including her work with the Northern California Caucus for Art and the time she spent this summer in Myanmar with Artists Beyond Boundaries.

In Addison’s creative world, she says “art is a group sport.” So the program will conclude with a group project. Anyone who wishes to participate will add a personal touch to a large monoprint, which can be displayed afterwards or cut up to give everyone a piece to take home.

Addison is a Berkeley-based visual artist, educator and curator whose widely collected works are included in The California Endowment permanent collection and numerous public and private collections. Her primary media include printmaking and multi-media installation.

All residents of Rossmoor are welcome to this free event on September 6, and refreshments will be served during the break. For more information, please contact Marcy Wheeler, RAA Program Chair, at 787-9159.
