A “Watercolor Just for the FUN of it”
Workshop by John Hopper is scheduled for
Saturday, June 25th
from 10am to 2pm.

John Hopper invites you for a wonderful watercolor experience, great lunch from Morucci’s Deli on Boulevard Way in Walnut Creek along with wine and soft drinks, and lots of FUN. The Workshop is open to all skill levels, beginner to veteran.

The Workshop is on Saturday, 6/25/2022 with three hours of Watercolor demos, tips and teaching. We start at 10am with a noon to 1pm break for a lunch. You can order sandwiches, salads and more in class from Morucci’s Deli on Boulevard Way. We will have their menu with prices in class. We will provide wine & soft drinks, good conversation about art and more, then after lunch, a 1pm to 2pm one hour session as a wrap up, all for just $60.You can bring your own lunch if you wish. Non-resident guests of RAA Members pay an addition Studio Fee of $20. You may call me with questions at; 925-284-5810, my mobile number, or email John at [email protected]The morning session will include a demo which will be a landscape or seascape and I will provide a pre-drawn template of the subject for those who want it so all of the artists can start painting immediately and follow along with the demo that I’ll be doing.? I will cover washes,wet-on-wet washes, blends, glazes, dry-brush technique and how to put the finishing touches on your painting.  In addition, color blending, values: water vs. paint, brush techniques and tricks of the medium will be demonstrated during the afternoon session in which I will provide help and suggestions to each of you as you paint. The FUN is having watercolor be easy and, being together and experiencing each other’s work, challenges and successes.

We will provide a Zoom link for those who wish to bring their iPads or iPhones to follow stroke-by-stroke painting at their work table. Many of the wonderful water colorists from my previous classes appreciate the close-up view of the color mixing and painting.

John Hopper, Instructor

John works in oils, acrylics and watercolors. He is also an avid photographer. John owns his own graphic arts & advertising agency in Walnut Creek. Born in Seattle, John has won scholarships and awards for his painting and has been exhibited at Seattle Art Museum, Frederick & Nelson's, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, PA and numerous private galleries. Locally he has exhibited at Lafayette Studios, John Muir Hospital, Lafayette Art & Wine, and recently had a one-artist retrospect at Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church. John's work is part of a group exhibit at the Contra Costa County Office Building in Martinez through AC5 - Art Passages. He is a member of Lamorinda Arts Alliance, California Watercolor Association and Rossmoor Art Association. John also coducts watercolor classes on the Queen Mary2 and on Queen Elizabeth cruises for Cunard Lines. He is an instructor at Rossmoor and has "Watercolor Just for the FUN of it" classes on a continuing schedule. "Watercolor Just for the FUN of it" is the name of his current book.
