Summer Gelli Plate Print & Collage Weekend

Get ready for twists and turns in artist, Anna George’s mixed media print and collage workshop. Begin your adventure making art paper and fine art collage pieces using acrylic paints provided by artist, Anna George. The sky is the limit in these sessions. Observe demonstrations in each session. No experience is necessary.

The class will create paint-on-paper monoprints, using techniques like negative imaging where light and dark are reversed, multiple passes, sectioning, and color combining that will allow for playful experiment and gorgeous results.

A “Gelli” plate is a rectangle about a half inch thick with springy resilience akin to firm gelatin. It has the ability to retain on its smooth surface acrylic color we apply in layers. The colors then  release in various ways. The results are delightful and rich and exciting. Anyone will be able to print dozens of pages on Saturday which become ingredients for framing, or for cutting and pasting into collage pieces on boards or canvases.

Learn to arrange and integrate color and texture to achieve harmony.  Results may be spare and simple or multi-layered and complex. Explore abstract, representational, and all that’s in between: figures, animals, abstract form, earthscapes.

Participants use Anna’s 8” x 10” gel plates. Provided are print paper, rice paper, card stock, a few exotic papers, numerous stencils, and surprises. Bring texture ingredients along with your own scissors, vinyl gloves, glue stick, adhesives, and possibly an apron or smock. Quality papers from high-end magazines (Vogue is best) and large format books make good starting points. One canvas, one board, and one plexi panel are included. (More available.)

Artist Anna George has been immersed in art-making and teaching for decades on both coasts. Enjoyment and levity find their way into each of her workshops, where everyone celebrates the creativity in the room. Come have fun! See some of her work currently at the Creekside Grill interior, the Fitness Center, Creekside Gallery, and at annageorgeartist.com and annageorgeonline.com.

Anna George, Instructor

Anna studied fine art in two east coast colleges and universities and has exhibited since. After founding a gallery in San Francisco, and garnering awards, she opened a big, bright studio on the Berkeley, Oakland border which housed a showroom of her multi-styled work. A decade later she moved a bit east where she has offered classes year-round for over eleven years at two venues. "I love witnessing our kinship as well as the growth and diversity of work emerging in the class," she says. "Each student moves in the direction they choose." In 2013 Anna launched and began hosting the RAA evening Soirées des Artistes which honors one artist in the community each event. Her current work involves oils and acrylics, canvas, linen, silk and mixed media. Call George at 925 783 9000. See annageorgeartist.com; for unrepeatable painted silkwear, annageorgeonline.com. In Anna's words, "In art there is heart."
