Fruit, Flowers Flora and Food Still Life Painting, 10 classes
Lights and drapes will be provided. Students bring their own setup materials, for example apples and eggs, flowers, or a vegetable setup. Classes will alternate between demonstration and lab with the first class focusing on materials and a demonstration, followed by a Lab class exploring the previous week’s Demo topic.
Oil, acrylic and watercolor painters of all levels are all welcome. The class will focus on creating still-life paintings with glowing color. Tarzier will show students that achieving effective color and light does not have to be difficult.
The series begins with discussing materials and equipment that make painting easier and fun, and then moves on to using light and shade to create convincing volume, creating depth with transparency, mixing grays to make the colors glow, and creating beautiful color relationships. Should that color be warm or cool? Thick or thin? Pure or mixed with white? Students will learn the answers to these questions through hands-on experience.
Carol Tarzier has been teaching still-life painting for many years at the Academy of Art University. Her paintings have been represented in national shows and museums, including the Salon International at the Greenhouse Gallery in Texas, at the Haggin Museum in Stockton, and at the California Art Club’s Gold Medal Show in Pasadena, CA.
