For some there is study, for others play, and for others magic. These combine into a treat for oneself, a chance to enjoy color and creativity and camaraderie. Anna George welcomes it all in a hybrid class aimed to help beginning watercolorists start off well and keep everyone painting.

Our newly renovated Studio 1 has wonderful ambient daylight. Open a paintbox and let ideas take shape.  I offer you constant support at your table. Choose to paint what you love. Whether you’re a beginner or hold an MFA, we all along take a fresh look at important painting fundamentals. As the acrylics/oils members will tell you, we have fun. All will benefit from this hybrid class.

Are you starting a new watercolor pursuit? Materials truly matter. I’ll guide you as you take steps to learn technique, incorporate interesting composition, and experiment, whether abstract or representational. As you develop your painting you’ll learn to skirt common pitfalls in this convivial class that has run for thirteen years.

I enjoy offering good sequencing in the painting process. We simplify new and age-old painting concepts using demonstrations, handouts, and one-on-one. Classes address values, form, light, composition, atmospheric perspective, color mixing and placement, etc. When painters request a special focus or demo I’m happy to oblige.

You choose source material; I recommend an 8×10 photograph. In the studio we share as we go, support each other, and enjoy some levity, each at our own pace.

Having been an artist for decades, I grew to be self-supporting, and bring the extent of that experience to classes. I’ve witnessed a lot of success and feel proud of my students’ growth. We encourage each other, and the final class is all about that–our own little art festival, where we show our work and savor scrumptious bites.

After exhibiting in the U.S. and Italy in galleries, museum shows, etc., I show abstract and representational work online and at various venues. I offer painted silkwear here in November. Anna George, Instructor

Anna studied fine art in two east coast colleges and universities and has exhibited since. After founding a gallery in San Francisco, and garnering awards, she opened a big, bright studio on the Berkeley, Oakland border which housed a showroom of her multi-styled work. A decade later she moved a bit east where she has offered classes year-round for over eleven years at two venues. "I love witnessing our kinship as well as the growth and diversity of work emerging in the class," she says. "Each student moves in the direction they choose." In 2013 Anna launched and began hosting the RAA evening Soirées des Artistes which honors one artist in the community each event.
