Autumn Soiree to feature the work of professional artist Jacqueline Osborn – Sept. 20

September–time for one of the most splendid events of the year—the Autumn Soiree—presented by the Rossmoor Art Association.  The soiree is a gift from RAA to the Rossmoor Community—it is delightful, free evening of art, music, wine and savories for all to enjoy.  It is a night where all who share a love for art come together to celebrate a Rossmoor artist.  Mark your calendars:  Wednesday evening, September 20, at 7:00 in the Fireside Room.

For our opening night we have our own Jacqueline Osborn, a professional artist, telling us about her life and showing her work.  Osborn has been painting and drawing since she was a child.  Born and raised in London, she was very close to her father, a designer, who encouraged her talent.  He was an inspiration for her; he whittled his tools into materials for his children. She grew to love drawing, and she won several competitions in elementary school.

Jacqueline Osborn graduated from the South End School of Art and Design in Essex and went straight into work as an illustrator and designer for the high-end fashion house, Windsmoor of London.  During this time, she raised two children as well.  Although well established in illustration and fine art in London, Osborn, like other women of her day, followed her husband’s career to the United States.  She settled in California and got a job as the illustrator at Sunset Magazine, where she worked for many years. Next she joined her husband’s design studio in Palo Alto, until they moved to Santa Fe, where she continued to draw and paint.  By this time she had three agents and was represented by galleries in London, San Francisco, Carmel, Sante Fe and Boston.

Osborn’s work has a quiet elegance. Her paintings communicate precious everyday moments that tell the story of another era, place, time and generation.  Her warm and restrained palette suggests a mood of times gone by—elusive moments that are captured on her canvas.  “Through my paintings I invite the viewer to reflect and create his or her own story around the mood, the situation, and relationships between the figures.  I hope my paintings will evoke a curiosity about the stories behind them”.

Jacci’s home is filled with her paintings, drawings and her husband Steve’s sculpture.  There is such a beauty and simplicity about the work on the walls; the skies of her landscapes are full of bright color, but the feeling is very soft and romantic.  Viewing her portfolio is overwhelming—magazine covers, portraits, exquisite pencil drawings, wine labels, large prints of angels, landscapes, paintings of everyday scenes—hundreds of works.  Since most of Osborne’s works are sold, we will be presenting many of her giclee prints.  To view a sneak preview of her soiree, put her name into Google where you may access her website.

After a lifetime of drawing, painting, commercial art and experimentation, Osborn continues to paint from her home studio, which is on her balcony.   Currently she has commissions for two paintings and a wine label.  The retrospective of her work is serious and impressive; it has been acquired for private collections and corporations.  To name a few: Oprah Winfrey, Apple Computer, Visa, Hewlett- Packard, Time Life, The San Francisco Symphony, Chevron, Pate International, Applied Materials and Mondavi Vineyards.  This is one soiree that you won’t want to miss.

Musicians for the evening will be Rosemarie Krovoza on viola and Meriel Ennick_on flute. (7:00)  Pat Solari, President of the RAA will welcome the audience and Anna George will sit in conversation with the artist. (7:30)  Join with us for a wonderful evening.  You may want to dress up and pretend you are going to opening night at the Metropoitan Museum of Art—or you may want to just come casual!   “See you in September” at the Soiree.
