Guest instructor Celia Shung-Hwa Chow again offers her popular Asian brush painting class. The fall class is Thursday mornings from 10:00 – 12:30 pm, starting October 13 and running through December 15 in Art Studio 2. Tuition is $120 for the 9-week course. Beginners, as well as advanced students, are welcome.
Students will use ink on rice paper to explore and expand basic knowledge about line drawing and working with big strokes in ink. The class will focus on painting flowers and landscapes. For more information, email Chow at shunghwa@comcast.net or call her at 925-778-2327.
Chow grew up in China and later moved to Taiwan to pursue her studies in art. She earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art from Normal University, Taipei, Taiwan, and taught art to junior high school students in Taiwan for 14 years.
Chow works mostly in brush painting, but she also teaches oils and drawing. She currently teaches in an East Bay Adult Education Center. To preview some of her work, go to her website at: www.shunghwachow.com.
She had an exhibit in the lobby of Kaiser Hospital in Oakland while working in the hospital. In October 2014, she saw her lifelong dream to showcase a collection of her artistic journey realized when her art book and artworks were showcased at the Chinese Art Show in the Chinese Art Gallery in San Leandro, CA. In November 2014 she had another art show at the Lindsay Dirkx Brown Art Gallery in San Ramon together with other artists.
Class size is limited to 8–12 students. Classes are open to all Rossmoor residents, and pre-enrollment is required. Please mail a check for $120, payable to RAA, to Celia Chow, 4229 Null Drive, Antioch, CA 94509.
