Artist Jody Mattison featured at November demonstration

The Rossmoor Art Association is pleased to welcome local artist Jody Mattison, an oil and acrylic painter, as the featured artist at its November meeting.

The demonstration is on Wednesday, November 6 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in Art Studio One. Doors open at 12:30 am, and the program begins at 1:00 pm. There will be a 20-minute break at 2:00 pm with refreshments and an opportunity to talk with the artist.

Jody will be painting a still life demonstrating the style of the old masters. Using the techniques of Titian and other old masters Jody will work through the processes of underpainting, grisaille, layering and glazing to achieve beautiful and timeless three-dimensionality. She often paints in oil but for this demonstration she will use acrylic as it is a faster way to get through the transparent and opaque layers of paint needed for ‘indirect painting’. This is opposed to painting directly, which is called alla prima. Jody will explain the terms and processes as she paints.

Jody Mattison holds a Masters of Fine Art from the Academy of Art University, is an established exhibitor with work juried into such prestigious shows as the Crocker-Kingsley Biennial. She has taught college and adult art classes in the San Francisco bay area for over 18 years. Jody has been published in International Artist magazine, and has private commissions in collections internationally. She owns Lafayette Studio, a small teaching venue in the East Bay, and also teaches at both the Community Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek and at her private studio, Antioch Atelier. Jody paints at her studio in Antioch but has also painted in Italy, and France.

Jody Mattison is represented by Epperson Gallery in Crockett and  Valley Art Gallery in Walnut Creek.
